Our fearless leader, Kevin Harvey, has officially been elected the next President of the American Society of Mining and Reclamation (ASMR). The ASMR is an organization that encourages communication among reclamation scientists and mining industry, supports reclamation research and technology development, provides technical expertise, and promotes educational programs relating to reclamation of lands disturbed by mineral extraction.
The present day ASMR, which consists of about 400 members, originally evolved from a small West Virginia advisory council, which began in 1973, when the focus was reclamation of lands disturbed by the extraction of coal in Appalachia. A National meeting is held annually where information is exchanged between academic professionals, those who are practicing reclamation in the field, students, and all other interested persons. Each year the location is rotated between eastern and western North America to provide opportunities for its members and guests to become familiar with diverse reclamation challenges and accomplishments.
Kevin has been a member of the ASMR since the early 1980s and actually presented on the topic of acid generating mine waste remediation at the second National meeting. Starting in June of this year, Kevin will begin his one year term as President Elect on the National Executive Committee. He will then officially become the ASMR President at the 2019 National meeting, which will be held in Big Sky and hosted by KC Harvey. His three year commitment will conclude with serving one more year as Past President.
Kevin is honored to be named the next President of ASMR and is looking forward to integrating his ideas and experience into shaping the future of the Society. He appreciates the networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities that are provided by the ASMR and accepted this nomination, as he does all things, with his employees in mind. Kevin believes in the strength and potential of the people in KC Harvey and is excited to connect them with these career development opportunities.
